The core of the pastoral care training programme comprises three one-day workshops which focus on the nature of pastoral care, models of care, the human situation, foundational skills, boundaries to care, and the qualities, motivation and gifting of the carer.

The centrepiece of the counsellor training programme is a modular course in Christian counselling designed to meet the training requirements of the Association of Christian Counsellors for counsellor accreditation. A 50-hour Introduction to Christian Counselling lays a firm foundation for practise and further study at Intermediate level (75 hours) and Advanced level (125 Hours).

Additional workshops on specific areas of difficulty, for example, loss and bereavement, addictions, emotional problems, depression, bitterness and forgiveness, suitable for both pastoral carers and counsellors are also available.

Venues throughout Scotland

Many of the courses are offered on a regular basis at our training centre in Falkirk and at venues throughout Scotland.

Bespoke courses and workshops designed to meet the specific requirements of church groups, pastoral teams and Christian organisations are also available and can be delivered locally.

Who should attend

Introductory level courses are suitable for anyone willing to invest time and energy in the lives of others, whether they are preparing for a caring role within the local church or local community. Those who simply want some additional listening skills to enable them to work more effectively with people in their everyday employment will also benefit.

Pastoral carers, elders, house-group leaders, youth workers, voluntary workers, schoolteachers, health professionals, social workers and many others have found the courses helpful.

Intermediate and advanced courses are suitable for those preparing for a more formal counselling role within the church or wider community, and for those already involved in counselling who want to increase their understanding and skills by undertaking a formal course of training.

Our Associates

Our Associates are all experienced and suitably qualified Christian counsellors, supervisors and trainers who bring a depth of insight and a wealth of experience in both pastoral and community settings to each course.
